Overview
The 2026 Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase — the world’s largest gem and mineral event — ran from January 23 through February 15, 2026, across more than 40 independently operated shows spread throughout Tucson, Arizona. The annual gathering is the central trade and retail event for the healing crystal, gemstone, mineral, fossil, jewelry, and lapidary industries in the United States, attracting buyers, sellers, collectors, educators, and first-time enthusiasts from around the globe.
Scale of the 2026 Showcase
Over 3,000 trade companies and exhibitors set up across circus tents, hotel rooms, convention halls, warehouses, and expo centers citywide. The showcase covers everything from $5 tumbled crystal necklaces to $200,000 museum-grade mineral specimens. A free shuttle service, the GemRide, connected major hubs including the Tucson Convention Center and satellite shows along the I-10 and Oracle Road corridor. Most major shows — including the 22nd Street Show, Kino Gem & Mineral Show, and Pueblo Gem & Mineral Show — were open to the public. High-end trade events, including AGTA GemFair and GJX, required a business license and tax ID for entry.
GJX Wholesale Show: February 2–7
The GJX Gem & Jewelry Exchange ran February 2–7 at 198 South Granada Avenue. Now in its 32nd year and occupying a 120,000-square-foot climate-controlled structure with nearly 700 booths, GJX is strictly wholesale and widely regarded as the most concentrated colored gemstone buying event on the annual calendar. A notable highlight of the 2026 edition was the return of the Brazil Paraiba Mine, showcasing rare Paraiba tourmalines. Other major offerings included Colombian and Zambian emeralds, Sri Lankan sapphires, Mozambican rubies, and Australian opals. Armed, off-duty Tucson Police personnel were on-site 24 hours a day throughout the show.
Main Show: February 12–15
The centerpiece Tucson Gem & Mineral Show (TGMS) held at the Tucson Convention Center ran February 12–15, themed “Red, White & Blue — Celebrate the Spirit of Minerals!” in honor of the approaching US 250th anniversary. The show offered over 16,500 square meters of exhibition space and featured retail dealers, educational exhibitors, competitive mineral displays, and symposiums including the FM-TGMS-MSA Symposium on February 14 and the Arthur Roe Memorial Micromount Symposium on February 13. Approximately 2,000 Arizona schoolchildren attended Friday morning as part of the society’s Junior Education outreach program.
Economic Impact
An economic impact study conducted by the Seidman Institute for Visit Tucson found that the 2025 Winter Showcase generated $286.3 million in direct spend — a 118% increase over the $131.4 million recorded in 2019. The 46 shows operated by 39 owners collectively injected $11 million directly into the Tucson local economy. The 2026 figures are expected to be published later in the year, but organizers reported strong attendance and buyer activity throughout the January–February window.
