What is the Best Color for Amethyst?

The main structure of Amethyst is silicon dioxide, which has a hardness of 7, specific gravity 2.65 and a refractive index of 1.54-1.55. It possesses pleochroism, i.e., it is capable of exhibiting varying colors of purple e.g. blue or red, based on the viewing angle. Amethyst is commonly cut in a mixed or in a step cut. Natural Amethyst derives its gorgeous purple shade due to the availability of such minerals as iron and manganese. The primary color changes are light purple, purple-red, deep red, dark purple and blue-purple.

What color of Amethyst is the most good?

Color: Brightness is Key
The second consideration that Amethyst should take into account is the color of the product. Not too dark or too light is not a good thing. It will either be not clear enough and then have no transparency or will not have much presence when it is too light. The ideal Amethyst, in my opinion, is a Mexican, Cruciform one since it creates an ideal balance.

Misconception: Darker is Better.
Most people assume that darker the Amethyst, the better and this is not true. In the case of Amethyst, color is not the most important aspect when it comes to determining the quality of the jewel. It is the purity and the transparency of the Amethyst which are the true measures of the value of the stone. The Amethyst can either be dark purple or light purple, the better the crystal of the greater the clearness, with fewer inclusions, and fractures. Amethyst that can have no inclusions or ice cracks, no color differences and homogenous color is regarded as good quality. Most of the Amethyst bracelets or necklaces are crafted out of lower grade Amethyst and thus they are not usually crafted out of high quality crystals. As such, the ones that are uniform, and are not accompanied with inclusions or ice cracks, are commonly artificial Amethyst.

Best Color of Amethyst
When buying Amethyst, one should initially consider the color and the best color to buy is grape purple, purple-red, and deep purple. Then, judge of its purity and transparency--the purer and clearer the Amethyst, the better it is. Deep purple-red and large red are the most appropriate of the numerous colour shades of Amethyst, and the excessively light purple is as common as dirt.

How to Wear Amethyst
Amethyst is not to be left on the right, as it is subjected to continuous exposure to collisions or rub against each other. As the vast majority of people prefer to use their right hand more often in the course of different actions, wearing Amethyst on the left hand will allow not to damage the crystal, i.e. to have scratches or to break it.

How to Care for Amethyst
Avoid High Temperatures
The amethyst cannot be subjected to a lot of heat. This is because Amethyst cannot be washed with the sunlight, when this happens it will fade and change to Ametrine (a blend of Amethyst and Citrine) due to high temperatures and this reduces the quality of Amethyst. So when using Amethyst on a daily basis, it should not be subjected to high temperatures, including heat in the oven, hot pots, steam in the bathroom, or even direct sunlight in the sunbathing process. Be sure never to expose your Amethyst to them.
